Return & Refund Policy
SpotLive's main offering — the journal, calculators and weekly updates — is free of charge. There is no shopping cart on this site, no paid subscription, and no premium tier. Most readers will never have a reason to consult this page.
That said, three small situations involve money changing hands, and we want to spell out our approach to each.
1. Reader donations
From time to time we run an annual support drive, and a "buy us a coffee" link sits in our weekly editorial update. Contributions made through these channels are voluntary, are not in exchange for goods or services, and are not tax-deductible (we are a for-profit corporation).
Refunds
If you change your mind within 30 days of making a donation, write to [email protected] with the subject line "Donation refund" and the date of the donation. We will refund 100% to the original payment method, no questions asked, typically within 5 business days.
After 30 days, donations become non-refundable because we have already counted them in our quarterly funding plan. We will, however, gladly help with anything else — point you at additional content, send a written acknowledgement, or remove your name from our supporter list if you prefer to remain anonymous.
2. Licensed content for institutions
Credit unions, community libraries and non-profit financial-coaching programmes occasionally licence our long-form articles for redistribution. These licences are negotiated case by case and are documented in a separate written agreement.
Refunds
Standard licence fees are refundable for 14 days from the invoice date if the licensed material has not yet been distributed to end users. After distribution, refunds are not available, but we will issue replacement content of equal value if a published guide is materially revised within 90 days of licensing.
Cancellations
Either party may terminate an ongoing licence with 30 days' written notice. Pre-paid fees covering the period after termination are refunded pro-rata.
3. Speaking engagements
Members of our editorial team occasionally accept speaking invitations from libraries, schools and consumer-finance non-profits. Engagement terms are documented in a written agreement.
Cancellation by the host
- More than 30 days' notice: any deposit is fully refunded.
- 14–30 days' notice: 50% of the deposit is retained to cover preparation time.
- Less than 14 days' notice: deposit is non-refundable, but we will offer to reschedule within 12 months at no additional cost.
Cancellation by us
If we have to cancel for any reason — illness, force majeure, scheduling conflict — we refund any deposit in full and at our discretion offer a future engagement at a discounted rate.
How to make a request
For all of the above, write to [email protected] with:
- The relevant transaction date and amount.
- The original confirmation email or invoice number.
- A short note on what you'd like us to do (refund, reschedule, replacement content).
We aim to respond within two business days. Refunds are processed to the original payment method only, in line with US payment-card rules.
Disputes
If we cannot reach an agreement, the dispute-resolution provisions of our Terms & Conditions apply. We will, however, always reach for a conversation before reaching for a clause.
Updates
If we ever introduce paid offerings (we currently have no plans to do so), this page will be the first place we describe how returns and refunds will work. Material changes are announced in our weekly editorial update.
